Applied for 3 courses, all of which are in political sciences/economics, and tbh thinking about my future just gives me huge anxiety issues so I’m not too sure what to think right now.

The deadline for college applications are later and I have some schoolwork I need to finish up for this semester but I’ll be applying to colleges soon.

The thing I like about (the idea of) colleges is that it gives me a much better idea of what I should expect after I leave post-secondary education but I feel as if a degree (bachelors) from a university will allow me to be more free in my options afterwards.

Any words of advice from wisdomful Oppo? It is greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you ever think about switching majors to engineering, don’t .

MechE school twists my balls and tickled my pubic hair every day, and I’m a fool for continuing with it.

I just finished applying to like 8 schools. Common app is a godsend. Absolutely use it if the schools you're applying to will accept it, which most will.

Before I went to university I thought I had a pretty good idea of how it would all pan out. Ever since then, my life has changed so much - and wildy different from my “plan”, but positively. It took me to places I never thought I would see, I did some crazy shennanigans, learned how to adult(ish), and made some great friends.

Overall its a great experience but you very much get out of it what you put in. My sage advice:

Never turn down any opportunities which you come accross. You will meet hundreds of new people, hopefully mostly good people, but form lasting bonds with suprisingly few -and that’s ok too. Join clubs. Do sports if that’s your thing. Go on adventures. Say yes to things.

You don’t have to have it all figured out at this stage, and thats ok. Even those who think they do usually deviate from their plans eventually.

Strongly consider cost when weighing your options, unless money isn’t an issue and someone else is taking care of your loans. Not worrying about $1000/mo. loan payments right out of school will allow you to save up and start building equity years earlier than you peers. My biggest regret is not taking the full ride at the public school and going private instead.

What do you mean by common app?

it’s one application for all of your schools, or at least most of them. very highly accredited and widely used.

Ahh, it seems that’s mostly for the U.S. though, I’m in Canada.

Oops. Well, maybe there’s a Canadian equivalent. If not, Bueno suerte.

Haha, if you genuinely love the material then it’s a good choice. Otherwise, definitely rock something else. Job opportunities aren’t even very great right now. That could always turn around though

Apply to as many colleges as you can. That was my mistake.

Also don’t stress out about college. Despite what many tell you, it is just highschool 2.0, only you sometimes learn things in college. The reason everyone drops out is because they party too much or do drugs because most people have a hard time adjusting to living on their own.

then again, I commute and spend all the money I save on rent on my cars instead.... so.......

With a bit of luck (I procrastinated, purely my fault) I will have my bachelors by the end of next semester.

Well good luck to ya! And that’s really what I fear most, is me just procrastinating as much as I did in high school. I know 100% if I just put in some basic effort long before the due date I could increase my grades dramatically.

I’m not sure how things look in Canada economically, but right now I would push someone towards a STEM field.

That said, college can be a blast, but it is a lot of damn work. I miss it, but as I got closer and closer to finishing I couldn’t wait to just be done. But it was for the best. I really grew as a person and grew intellectually. I was probably one of the dumber kids in my school, a public uni, and that helped me get smarter by leaps and bounds.

Also, know when to cut ties with people who aren't good for you. Be it friends or females, be honest with yourself and recognize when people are trying to use you.
